our persuasion

The following is a Condensed Statement of Faith:

The Bible - The Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It has God as its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.

God - There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, Spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the Universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.

The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Godhead has distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

Man - Man was created by God in His own image. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by His Creator with freedom of choice. Man chose to sin against God, lost his innocence, and passed to his posterity a nature and inclination to sin.

Salvation - Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

our Program

Education - We believe that God has entrusted the church with the ministry of teaching His eternal truths. We use the Bible as our standard of faith and practice. Our teachers use methods and materials in our Sunday School program to covey these truths in a fresh, relevant and understandable manner.

Edification - First Baptist Church takes seriously its commitment to the building up of the body of Christ. This demands that we constantly recognize the tremendous diversity of gifts and abilities within our family.

Our people provide the means for our church to meet the needs of our church family. If you are looking for a place where you can grow in the family of God, this is the place!

Evangelism - Jesus gave the church the blessed Holy Spirit to provide us the power to share the Gospel throughout the world. It is in this reliance on the power of God that First Baptist Church presses ahead to reach our community for Christ.

First Baptist Church endeavors to reach out to all the youth and especially to the local community's youth.

There are planned programs throughout the year for different occasions to help reach and teach the youth who participate.

  • Different types of programs are implemented throughout the year, such as a Sunday Children's Church for ages 5-12 where they are taught a Bible Lesson and have organized games for those attending.
  • A Yearly Vacation Bible School for the children during the summer and a Yearly Angel Tree Christmas Program for reaching out to the underprivileged children and children of incarcerated parents.
  • The Church has a well equipped Youth Center for the different programs and activities allowing for organized games and supervised activities by Youth Workers.

What about salvation?

There are many today who believe they can go to Heaven if they have lived a reasonably good life and tried to do their best. Consider what Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in; thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:21-23).

And again we find the Lord speaking to a man who had lived a clean life and who believed in the existence of God but, "Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). You see my friend, it is not the life you live, or the work you do, but it is the matter of whether or not you have been born again, or saved.

sin

The Scripture declares, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). Sin must be dealt with in the manner prescribed by God. Again the scriptures declare, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). Sin separates man from God because God is holy and perfect.

The above verse tells us that sin must be punished. That punishment is separation from God in Hell. We deserve the eternity of Hell because of our sin. When this truth is recognized, the heart of man naturally cries, "What Must I Do to be Saved?" My friend, there is hope!

God loves every boy and girl, every teenager, and every adult in this world. This means that God loves you and provided a way for you to go to heaven someday! Isn't that good news? That is exactly why the gospel is the good news of what God has provided for sinners through Jesus Christ, His Son.

savior

Jesus came into this world with one mission in mind, not to condemn the world but to save it (John 3:17). He was God in the flesh who lived a sinless life, and came to die on the cross as a satisfactory payment for all our sin (2 Cor. 5:21). Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). This means that our only way to heaven is through the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is the Savior of the world.

sacrifice

"Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man (Jesus) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:38-39). You see it is not through any work or sacrifice of yours, but through Jesus we have the forgiveness of sins.

Why? because the scripture says, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed" (l Peter 2:24). In other words, Jesus Christ satisfied the anger of God by dying for our sins. Jesus was your substitute on the cross. He met all the demands of God for our sins so that God can declare us righteous by faith.

salvation

Will you accept God's free offer of salvation today, based on what Jesus did for you on the cross of Calvary? You say "What Must I Do?" Paul answered that very question to the Philippian jailer when he said, "... Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (Acts l6:3l).

Would you, right this moment, bow your heart before God, admit you are a sinner without any hope, and place your faith in what Jesus did for you at Calvary? Just believe God's promise in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
